Today was...

1) Ten Thousand Villages - sadly disappointing. I didn't like the selection nearly as much as other stores I've visited.

2) A much needed hair cut for Fitz. With directions on how to style it. Ha.

3) Rugby. My first game ever and it was a shutout - 55-0. Go Red!

4) Shopping - Gap and Superstore. I could easily create my entire wardrobe from these two stores.

5) The best burger ever. Seriously. Fitz declared it an emotional experience and really wanted to get a second burger because I ate too much of his. I promised him we can go back soon.

6) A surprise birthday party for Q. I think he was surprised. Either way, it was fun for a Thursday night.

7) A guitar, a Swiffer wet jet, and wooden frames for my living room from Jala. Yay for awesome friends who give us things! (Or loan in the case of the guitar.) And now I can properly mop my kitchen floor.

8) A gratuitous picture of Coach Fitz...

reasons why I love Fitz...

1) He begrudges me when I wake him up from a nap asking him to take pictures of my feet.

2) He gets up again when I decide the first photo session didn't produce the desired results.

3) He makes me red curry for dinner.

Happy Easter

Fitz got Easter TOMS.

I got an Easter basket with magazines, zebra cakes, reese's, and limonatas.

We're heading out soon for an Easter egg hunt, gourmet dinner, and (hopefully the last) Vancouver vs. Chicago game.

And a very happy - you now qualify for senior discounts - birthday to my Dad. Love you!

5FY

1) It's Holy Week.

2) People who already spend most of their time at church find it easier to just set up a bed in the office and stay.

3) Not really. But Fitz has been away from home more hours than not this week.

4) Also, Fitz has added "rugby coach" to his list of titles and responsibilities.

5) Thus, I can add "rugby coach's wife" to the ever growing definition of this Mrs. Fitz.

6) [Bonus!] I haven't cooked a real meal in almost two weeks. When you stop buying groceries your "eating out" budget line increases substantially. And other people have been feeding us in between trips to Sushi Q. Tonight we're having lamb for seder dinner.

5FY

1) Life has been simultaneously busy and boring. Hence the recent lack of posts. My sincerest apologies.

2) I did, however, manage to slip in three DIY projects - recovering a pillow with a t-shirt, remaking a cheap cork board, and repainting a side table. Not are exactly rocket science, but they make me happy!

3) Fitz and I settled on a once and for all decorating plan. I'm excited. It's beautiful and it involves Peggy's Cove. It's going to take time and a lot of bargain hunting before it's complete though.

4) I'm starting a honey-build list for Fitz. First up - a new media center. Second - a new desk. Third - I haven't gotten that far, but it's only a matter of time. Assuming the first two projects go well, we'll be building a lot of our own furniture from here on out.

5) We booked our return tickets from the east coast whirlwind vacation - from Philadelphia! Despite growing up in the same state, I've never actually been to city and it's on Fitz's list of places to visit, so we're making it an overnight vacation with my parents. This vacation just keeps getting better and better!

the quilted owl

Oatmeal Cream Pies

I followed the cookie recipe exactly, but used buttercream frosting because I didn't have the fluff called for in the filling recipe.

These are disappearing quickly in our house!

5FY

1) I survived April Fool's Day unscathed. I hate tricks. I hate surprises. (I even pick out 99% of my own Christmas presents to avoid surprises. The other 1% is entrusted to Fitz along with a very, very detailed list of my wants and wishes.) So the first day of April and all it's foolishness is my idea of the worst. holiday. ever. Thankfully I wasn't forced to celebrate this year.

2) I just sewed a felt owl onto a quilt square. I love him. I want to keep him as my own quilted owl, but alas I must send him in the mail Monday. He's going to be part of a "we love you!" quilt for Lin when she has the babe. Since we can't be there in person we can be there in spirt. Or something like that. It's a sweet idea and I can't wait to see the finished product.

3) New favorite recipe - lemon pasta salad. I substituted red peppers and cucumber for the tomatoes and zucchini since I wanted to use the vegetables that I had, but it was still amazing. It's the perfect time of year for cold pasta salads because it brings hope of an impending summer. (I've pretty well given up on spring.)

4) Two recipes I'm excited to try this week - chicken tacos with fried shells like chalupas. Canada has yet to experience the ah-mazing Taco Bell chalupa shell so I'm bringing it to the west one taco at a time. And honey oatmeal bread. I can already taste it toasted and slathered with butter.

5) Ummm... ahhh... I really need to change this to 4FY.

Peace.
