Thursday, September 30

day thirty

1) Keif and I exchanged birthday gifts via Skype - almost as good as getting them in the mail!

2) I need to just stop trying to make pizza. I say this every time and yet once again I'm up to my elbows in flour kneading the stubborn dough and not loving the end result.

3) So the house is a mess and my time management was shaky at best, but I've stuck with this journal for 30 days! Here's to 71 more!

a beautiful last day of september

Wednesday, September 29

day twenty-nine

1) I cleaned the whole house today... how long will it stay this nice? I'm giving it 2 hours, tops.

2) Fitz is home!

3) Time management today was a win. Between the cleaning and running errands in town I ticked a lot of items off my to do list. Yeah!

Edited to Add: and since I clearly forgot one of the more important events of today... shopping! I had to go to the mall which is tortuous when you have no money to spend. Even worse, walking past Gap with it's bright red extra 25% off sign by the front door. As I watched the jewelry lady clean and inspect my engagement ring I decided that a quick trip in to browse the clearance racks was permissible, but I could only spend the cash in my wallet.

$10! Maybe even $12 if I counted all my change!

It was enough though. I flipped through a few shirts (I'm not allowed to buy more t-shirts), jeans that were either too big or too small, and finally landed on a pair of navy blue shorts. For the perfect price of $6.70 they came home with me and I still have $5 in my wallet! I love me a good end of season clearance sale.

day twenty-eight

1) Since I had all kinds of time by myself today, I pulled out a project I've been meaning to start for some time - converting a dress into two aprons. I completely underestimated how well the dress was made; it took two hours to pick apart the side seams since each seam was sewn 14 million times. I got my seven dollars worth out of it in thread alone.

2) I've been pondering the concept of time management and being a good steward with my minutes and hours. For the most part, that area of my life can be stamped with a big, huge FAIL. Time to take action (heh, time...) so keep me accountable, okay?

3) Fitz is having fun at his retreat, but I can't wait until he comes home tomorrow!

Monday, September 27

day twenty-seven

1) My plans to sit at home and watch as much crappy reality TV while Fitz is gone have been foiled. Not one hour into the three day retreat and the cable guy came to take away my box and remote. At least I have Big Bang Theory.

2) On the same note, does anyone know if I can watch Biggest Loser streaming? Thank you Shaw for destroying my date with Mom.

3) This whole less daylight thing is cramping my style. I hate seeing dusk at 7:00 pm.

Sunday, September 26

day twenty-six

1) I pacify my desire to spend too much money on a new fall wardrobe by adding items to my online shopping cart and then closing out of the browser. Somehow it's still satisfying to look and make decisions about what I'd like without actually making a purchase.

2) Fitz is leaving me for the next three days to hang out at a denominational retreat. I opted not to go since T and A aren't going, but now I'm kind of regretting the decision. What will I do for three days by myself?

3) I need a good scratch brownie recipe. Any suggestions?

Saturday, September 25

day twenty-five

1) Apparently the "average processing time" listed on the immigration website is a little too optimistic. Awesome. Take the process I'm dreading and drag it out even longer. Love you too, Canada.

2) It's getting harder and harder to come up with three semi-interesting events or thoughts from my day, unless you want daily reports on laundry and dishes or the weather or the hours of crappy reality television I half listen to while working. I seriously need a job.

3) Fitz and I comment every weekend that we spend far more time at church now than we did a year ago and not once do either of us complain or dread being there. I love that we love church and work and the people with whom we spend the majority of our time. What an amazing difference from the east.

what I miss about the east

Thanks for the pictures mom and dad!

Friday, September 24

day twenty-four

1) At the end of every softball season I plan to write a regretful "I'm hanging up the cleats and retiring" speech, but when that final out is thrown I realize I can't say no. My body is beat up and some days I feel far too old to keep playing, but the game is in my blood. I'd miss it too much to say I'm done forever.

2) Thanksgiving is in two weeks. Two! The last turkey I tried to cook was a major failure - should I try again or just declare this a vegetarian meal?

3) ... I've got nothing. I'm dead tired and I'm going to bed.

Thursday, September 23

day twenty-three

1) I deposited a check for $1500 into my checking account today. Commence residency application.

2) The season premier of Big Bang Theory was ah-mazing! I love that Sheldon has a "she's not my girlfriend" girlfriend.

3) I rearranged some of our furniture. Again. It's a good thing Fitz is a work while all of this goes down otherwise he'd be giving me the side-eye.

check us out!

We're official, yo!

Wednesday, September 22

day twenty-two

1) Welcome fall! Surprisingly, this was the first nice day in some five weeks that I could actually hang clothes out to dry. I'll miss the fresh air in my towels.

2) Rachel got off the plane! I finally finished all ten seasons of Friends. It was a fantastic finale, but I'm sad that it is over.

3) I'm not sure how many more emotional roller coasters I can ride and still keep my head on straight. Today was an exceptionally wild ride, but the happy ending made every low point worth it.

Tuesday, September 21

day twenty-one

1) The sun made a short appearance on this last day of summer! My hopes for a comeback indian summer were drowned out with all the rain, but I'll take what I can get today! The lake is absolutely beautiful when it reflects the bright blue sky and an occasional floating cloud. The rainy days have really made me appreciate the sun even more.

2) Most of our trees are coniferous so the beautiful colors of the changing leaves that I grew accustom to in New England are few and far between. It sparks the decorator in me to bring out the brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows in our house to make up for nature's lack of deciduous trees in the valley. Perhaps a trip to the thrift store is in order...

3) Fitz cooked roast beef and vegetables for supper. It was delish!

Monday, September 20

day twenty

1) Cookies baked, chili in the crockpot, bread rising on the back of the stove. It's been a productive day in the kitchen!

2) I use Fitz' Monday/Tuesday weekend as an excuse to not do anything I'm responsible for, as if people are allowed to slack off on the weekends. Maybe this is why my overall productivity level is so low.

3) I learned something about our oven today while letting the bread rise... It vents out of the cooktop, directly onto the bowl of dough, thus partially cooking some of the dough while it was rising. Thankfully I was able to salvage half of it for a loaf. While I expected some failure in the kitchen I didn't expect it so soon or with a recipe I've made multiple times. Fail.

*I had this all typed out and forgot to post before I went to bed. Oops!

Sunday, September 19

day nineteen

1) I've been slacking on the pictures lately and the blog is looking a little sad. Life hasn't lent itself to grand photo ops though, unless you want  to see a mountain of dirty laundry or Fitz and I scarfing down supper just before going to bed. The fall season has proven to be insanely busy, but I'm enjoying the energy that it brings. Things will turn around as we settle in and get used to a new routine.

2) This cooler weather has inspired me to try new recipes. I scoured my cookbooks and made a list - stay tuned for the trials and errors that will surely come with his new endeavor.

3) Speaking of cooler weather, we watched a fantastic lightning storm this afternoon. It's so neat to watch the clouds roll in over the mountains and then watch the wall of rain move down the lake. If it weren't for the fact that I'm actually asking for a dreary day, I'd love to see more storms. Maybe next summer.

Saturday, September 18

day eighteen

1) K and I spent the rainy afternoon shopping for fabulous fall clothes. Neither of us were particularly enamored with anything, but it was a great time sorting through clearance racks and lamenting the cost of t-shirts in Gap.

2) T&T had a special birthday pie for me along with our weekly nacho night. This has been one of the best birthdays on record.

3) Tomorrow morning is our first regular morning of children's ministry. Here's to hoping I survive the early morning and and crazy time with the kids! This is what I have to look forward to for weeks to come!

Friday, September 17

day seventeen and it's my birthday!

1) Fitz told me he was getting up at 7am to go for a run (completely out of the norm, but we've agreed to work harder at being healthy so I didn't think anything of it and rolled over to go back to sleep). A half hour later he came in with a soy chai latte and a mixed berry muffin from Bliss. Yay for breakfast in bed! To his credit, Fitz did go for a jog by the lake while he was waiting for the bakery to open.

2) Fitz made a huge deal about buying birthday surprises and I have been anticipating the gifts for days. I love surprises! Before he left for work he gave me season 3 of The Big Bang Theory and the October issue of Real Simple magazine. Best birthday surprises!

3) There were 38 kids at youth tonight. 38! Holla! I am predicting that we'll be averaging 50 by Christmas, but that might be underestimating. I certainly hope it's underestimating, but I tend to be conservative so I'm extra excited when my expectations are exceeded.

Thursday, September 16

day sixteen

1) Yummy yummy yam fries and onion rings. I'm stuffed and greasy. Fitz enjoyed his portion of the 4 kg of chicken wings we took to the fry party while I secretly judged him. Yeck. I hate chicken wings.

2) Volunteering in children's ministry pays! I 'needed' a copy of iLife so J hooked me up with a spare license that the church owns. As expected, Apple is far superior to Microsoft. Office just might find itself in the trash can.

3) Tomorrow is my birthday! In case you weren't aware.

Wednesday, September 15

day fifteen

1) Today I learned that there are adults (or an adult) in the US that have no knowledge of John Deere. This is absolutely unfathomable to me. I know I was special and all, given the privilege of attending tractor shows since I was a wee child, but really?!

2) Fitz has a Superman lunchbox that he packs everyday. Today's menu was Mr. Noodles and a granola bar... I should be a better wife and pack him some real food.

3) The regular season is over for division E softball. If I weren't so tired I'd jump up and down and squeal with delight. In the meantime, I'm ignoring the final tournament that will take away an entire weekend.

Tuesday, September 14

day fourteen

1) Fitz has self imposed rules about wearing his new purple sweater - i.e. he cannot wear it until he's showered. Heh.

2) I have been blogging daily for fourteen days! That is approximately 12 days longer than I've ever stuck with a personal commitment. Yay me!

3) Watching Teen Mom makes me feel so much better about my own life, even though I spend too much time sitting on the couch watching bad reality TV and don't have a job.

Monday, September 13

day thirteen

1) Fitz and I bought matching purple sweatshirts. Okay, so they don't match, but they are both purple. And awesome.

2) Teriyaki stir fly, for the win! Fitz and I are trying to branch out and try new things, which mostly means tapping into the vast (and delicious!) options of Asian dishes. Why have I waited so long to try curry?! And various stir fry sauces?! I've been seriously missing out for the past 24 years!

3) My birthday is in four days. I already gave Fitz my list  - my favorite magazine, white chocolate Lindor truffles, and something good to drink. I might be a little bit excited.

Sunday, September 12

day twelve

1) Success! The party was fantastic. Now I'm loving the memories while enjoying my couch.

2) I'm loving Thai food. L&A made us green curry and it was delightful. I can't wait to try cooking it myself.

3) Tomorrow I can clean my house! Hooray!

Saturday, September 11

day eleven

1) I think I'm done buying obscene amount of hot dogs, buns, chips, cake mix, and icing sugar. I'd be okay if I didn't set food in the grocery store for a solid month.

2) The party is tomorrow. I'm so excited. We have bounce houses and a dunk tank and hot dogs and cupcakes and a sweet program. I'm equally as stoked to take a nap tomorrow afternoon when the party is finally over.

3) Nine years ago today I was sitting in second period watching a movie when the world was changed forever. We will never, ever forget.

Friday, September 10

day ten

1) Arby's in the north has a different honey mustard sauce than the Arby's that I loved so much south of the boarder. This is particularly disappointing when you buy a roast beef sandwich only so you have an excuse to eat an entire container (or two) of that delicious, golden sauce.

2) I'm a little disappointed that I had to split up my hot dog bun purchase into two trips. I was really looking forward to the odd stares and comments that would surely come while pushing a cart with 48 dozen buns. If I'm super lucky I'll make it on People of Walmart before this party is over.

3) I appreciate Rock Band for not judging me too harshly while I sing loud and off key.

Thursday, September 9

day nine

1) Why yes, I am having a big party! Was it the 48 dozen hotdogs or 14 boxes of cake mix in my cart that gave it away? You should have seen me last week when I bought 25 bags of super Lays.

2) If I had avacados in the house I would eat an entire bowl of guacamole for supper. Remind me of this when I complain that my pants are too tight.

3) My house is a mess. I've resigned myself to living in the chaos until Monday. Maybe then I'll find five minutes to fold towels.

Wednesday, September 8

day eight

1) Burnt rice smells much like burnt popcorn. Learned that the hard way.

2) Costco was a bit of a disappointment. I wanted it to be bigger with a better selection.

3) Softball is an excellent excuse to beat something.

Tuesday, September 7

day seven

1) French toast is just an excuse to eat butter and syrup.

2) This time change is still weird to me. My morning is just starting while the rest of the family is half way through the work day. And, no, it's not because I sleep in so late.

3) The classifieds give me hope and then let me down with great regularity. I hate hearing that I'm the second caller on a free piece of furniture that I am dying to own. It breaks my little heart. Boohoo.

Monday, September 6

day six

1) This cool weather has me excited for the impending fall season! I can't wait to bust out sweaters and scarves and my favorite jeans.

2) I cannot wait until Christmas and the (possible) return of M. I cannot wait to make a trip over the mountains to visit M in her city.

3) This week is shaping up to be insanely busy. T and I will be making 300 cupcakes - care to join us?

Sunday, September 5

touring the valley

The next lake over.

Dirty Laundry and my lake.

day five

1) Toured the valley.

2) Tried Thai.

3) The Big Bang Theory.

Friday, September 3

day three

1)  After several failed attempts to make contact about the beloved dresser, I'm giving up. It's probably for the best because it's not exactly what I was looking for and I really should hold out until the perfect piece comes along. So the annoying chick who won't answer her phone has saved me from my myself. Good thing someone is watching out for me.

2) M will be here in less than 30 minutes! I'm super excited to see her, and super excited to go to Kelly O's tonight. Mmm, pachos.

3) DVR has changed my life. Withdrawal is going to hurt.

Thursday, September 2

day two

1) Sister M comes tomorrow! I am sooo excited she is spending the holiday with us! I

2) Rice Krispie treats are addicting. Fitz and I finished off a whole pan in a matter of hours. I probably shouldn't be boasting about this little fact.

3) I was sufficiently freaked out when our motion sensor lights kept flipping on for no apparent reason the other night. Now I'm not sure whether to be relieved that it wasn't a person or more freaked out because we have confirmed the return of the bear cub.

Wednesday, September 1

day one

1) In honor of the first anniversary of my 101 in 1001 goals, I am starting #101. Commence 3 sentence daily journal for 101 days! (I have a feeling these will be 3 thoughts a day, because I'm too wordy to sum up an entire day in 3 sentences.)

2) I've unloaded almost an entire bottle of CLR in the shower. I briefly thought about taking before and after pictures, but the before was so nasty no one would ever visit me for fear the slimy, orange stuff would get them. The after just looks normal, like a clean shower should... not exactly picture worthy.

3) I waited all day for the skies to open up as promised and rain out my softball game, but alas, the weather man failed me. Good thing, because this was one for the record, folks. We won! And I scored! Now it's time to tuck myself into bed. I'm too old to maintain this level of activity for very long.

living room rearranged

I like it, and Fitz agrees!
